I think because the Republican Party is a party of fear and greed. They love to make Americans scared of every other country out there. If they could find a reason on why we needed to invade Switzerland, they would.

It's all propaganda and corruption that breeds into fear. What all of that adds up to is money. That's what it's really all about. Money. A large defense budget puts lots of money into large conservative companies in the private sector, and we all know how that is just a large revolving door.

I know that a lot of Republican leaders say they don't support gay marriage and are big Christian supporters, etc, but I honestly don't believe they give two shits about any of that. It's just that they know there is a large audience that believe in things like that and they play to what those people want to hear to stay in power and in return, make money.
