Detroit Lions Free Agency

I just got the Grand Rapids Press today and they list some free agents that the Lions will be actively pursuing. If they got a few of these TYPE players it could change the draft focus. Mayhew has said he wants a QB and improve the defense. I still believe Stafford will be picked #1. Here are the big targets of the Lions:

Bart Scott ILB - Baltimore Ravens
2008 Stats - 82 tackles, 1.5 sacks

Rocky Bernard DT - Seattle
2008 Stats - 55 tackles, 4.0 sacks

Jonathon Vilma MLB - New Orleans (is quoted and would like to be a Lion)
2008 Stats 132 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT

Bryant McFadden CB - Pittsburgh
2008 Stats - 41 tackles, 1 sack, 2 INT

Vincent Fuller S - Tennessee
2008 Stats - 47 tackles, 2 pass-breakups

If these type players are signed where do you see the draft focusing on? I see offense because that would make the defense at least stable if they could get a Defensive Lineman, Linebacker, and a Secondary player in free-agency.

I think Bart Scott is something that has just been thrown against the wall to see if it sticks by the media around here, because he is from Detroit. I would be so happy to get Vilma.

Building defenses through FA usually doesn't work. You guys will probably sign a couple guys, but I think the Lions are going to be focusing more towards the draft than signing players already in their prime.

Bart Scott is a nice, tough player, he's going to be 29 though and even though he doesn't have a lot of wear and tear you shouldn't overpay him. I don't see the Lions paying for him.

Rocky Bernard is just an aging filler. He's was nothing impressive last year. He's going to be 30 and might only have a handful of years left in him.

Jonathan Vilma is solid, but again I wouldn't sink much into him.

I wouldn't expect much, probably just mid-level bargain's.

Vincent Fuller is more of a CB than S. He was our nickleback last year and played pretty well in coverage.

EDIT: Nevermind, Fuller has already resigned with Tennessee.

Just read that in the Press as well. Realistically, I seriously doubt we get any of those guys...
