Updated 6:30 p.m.: The Boston Globe is reporting that an NBA source informed them that during a three-hour meeting Thursday in Detroit, the Celtics did, in fact, offer longtime Piston Rasheed Wallace a contract using the mid-level exception.
“While interested,” writes Marc Spears, “the source said Wallace was in no rush to make a decision.”
We sent a ton of people to go meet up with Sheed somewhere, so I'd believe they convinced him that Boston is the right place and they could really use him. I just want to get this whole Sheed to Boston thing done with ASAP.
Boston is mistaken if they actually think he's going to help them. An outside shooter/jacker is something they don't need any more of, and that's all Sheed is anymore. I love Sheed's personality, and fire, but he can hurt a team more than he can help it most of the time.
He doesn't? He plays tough defense and everybody in the league hates him. Sounds like the perfect Celtic to me.
No, have you watched the Pistons at all lately? He doesn't play tough D anymore, all's he did this past season is jack up trey's. That's it, he's fat, old, and lazy now. Have fun with him, he'll be a headache to you guys by mid season, I doubt he will respect Doc Rivers.
When you guys see guys going towards the lane and Rasheed stepping back out of the way letting them score over and over...you guys will realize why you could use the money in better ways. I'd rather see Rasheed jacking up shots rather than Rondo, Pierce, Allen, Garnett.

This move wouldn't put them ahead of Cleveland anyways IMO
The Cavs don't currently have a starting PF, much less a PF that can match up against KG/Sheed for a full 48 minutes. The Cavs have JJ Hickson and Darnell Jackson. I think LeBron at PF would be a bad idea.
I think it's a pretty good signing for the Celtics. Rasheed isn't the player he was even just two years ago, but as a probable 20-24 mpg player, I think he could still be a valuable asset to a team. Plus, he's still talented enough to be decent insurance if KG isn't 100% healthy, at least temporarily.

Everyone said Stephon would be a headache for us when we signed him. How'd that turn out?

He was barely noticeable, and didn't help you guys really either. If you want Sheed to come in, not be a headache, but average 4 ppg like Marbury...go for it.

He was a bit of a headache on the floor. And I think that's more where Steve was going. Rasheed has a lot of things about his game I hate. He shoots 3's and avoids playing in the low post (his true strength that made him a top 5 pick). He's also rather lazy on defense. But I think in the right environment he can play to his potential. Whether that's Boston remains to be seen but it wouldn't be too bad having Rasheed Wallace at the 4 if for some reason KG's road to recovery is rocky.

Perk - Sheed is going to be 35 when the season starts, and you're only fooling yourself if you think he has some kind of untapped potential that Rivers/Boston can pry from him. He will forever be a nutcase, and primarily a perimeter big man. Period. There is no arguing about it, people have been trying to get him play down low for years, and he's never listened. He has a craving for the 3 ball. It's sad really, how much potential the guy has if he could learn to stay down low.
Honestly, I really believe he would have gone down as one of the best big men of all-time if he realized his size, and played like an actual big man. His skill set was/is just that good. But that's wishful thinking, and like I said - it's not going to happen. So get it out of your head now, because you're going to get the same response from anybody who has watched Rasheed extensively over his career.

I understand that and that's pretty much why I'm 50/50 on signing him. But right now our best reserve bigs are Glen Davis, Mikki Moore and Brian Scalabrine. Whether he's lazy or perimeter oriented or not, that's a huge upgrade. And I think we have enough veteran leaders in the locker room to keep him cool off the court.
Perk and Sheed's technical foul totals should be fun to document through the year though if he signs.
Good luck getting him to agree to a bench role. I mean I've never heard him say he's against it, but he strikes me (obviously) as the kind of guy who wouldn't really accept that.
