Lightbulb Compensation in NBA free agency?

I have a question. In every other sports league except for the NBA there's free agency compensation. Why no the NBA? In MLB, NFL and NHL teams that lose disgruntled players with inflated egos (which there is plenty of in the NBA) that chase the money, receive compensation in draft picks depending on a few factors.

In the NHL the team receives better draft picks and more draft picks in compensation depending on how much that player leaves for if they are a restricted free agent.

In the MLB the team receives two first round picks if they lose a Type A free agent (top 20% at their position) or one first round pick if they lose a Type B free agent (the next 20% at their position)

In the NFL it's sort of the same deal as the NHL. Depending on how much money their departing player signs for they receive compensation.

No such thing in the NBA. What would be your ideal solution to this?

IDK, I actually like it the way it is. If you want something out of the restricted player, do a sign-n-trade to get something back. If not, you are getting to save that money and sign another player.

I think that's basically the way it should be. I really don't care that other leagues do it differently, but I think the NBA way is the most fair to be honest.

The only reason I can see for being against it is because there's limited roster spots in the NBA so first round picks are more necessary in the NBA in order to keep up with the minimum and maximum player thresholds.

The NBA might not offer compensation in form of draft picks and such for lost players but they do offer compensation in the forms of being able to offer more money to said player and the ability to sign & trade the player so you get something in return.

To my knowledge the NBA is the only league that allows a player's current team the luxury of being able to offer more money to said player than any other team in the league. Also the usage of a sign & trade all but eliminates losing a star player for nothing. Off the top of my head the last time a star player used free agency and his former team just letting him walk was Steve Nash back in 2004.

There are only two rounds in the NBA draft and second rounders often don't make rosters anyway. It doesn't make sense for an NBA team to be punished by losing a first round draft pick just because they signed a sought after free agent.

But, I wouldn't be opposed to something like this. If a team loses a player in free agency and that player signs for more than the MLE, then the team that loses that player gets another exception worth the value of maybe half of the average salary of the contract he signed.

So take for example Ben Gordon. He signed for a contract worth approximately $11 million per year. The Bulls would then have an extra exception worth about $5.5 million to go after another player along with the MLE. If the team the free agent left is already under the cap, they can go over cap to by that amount to sign free agents of their own.

I think that could help some teams that often lose their free agents.

NBA players are the most overpaid of any athletes in the four Major Sports..... Almost all their money is guaranteed, and NBA Players have way too much freedom as it is. Plus smaller rosters = less need for compensation.
