it ain't bad. More importantly they shed 21 million off next year's payroll. Battier still has one more year but he's a glue guy that Philly needs right now. With this trade they may be rejuvanated enough to finish the second half of the season on a good note, and maybe make the playoffs. Then they would still have cap space to land a 3rd tier player, or a very solid backup C in FA. Brand's contract is a lost cause so they might as well use him to the best of his capabilities. He may not be playing up to the salary but he's playing well enough to be a factor.
In the future it may look like this:
Speights
Brand
Young
Holiday
Williams
It is messing with our future. Kendrick Perkins is a top defensive center in the NBA at 25 years old. Eventually, his offensive game will develop to add onto his defense. I would not want to downgrade to Ben Wallace who was on the verge of retiring at the end of last season. If Ben Wallace was to retire after this season, who would be our future center?
It's pretty much adding Tayshaun Prince to the team to make a run. Kendrick Perkins is better than Ben Wallace. Ray Allen isn't far off from Richard Hamilton, but Ray Allen has stayed healthy. I'd take Big Baby over Jason.
Came up with just a minor trade to help add some depth and versatility to the Celtics.
Celtics trade: Scalabrine, Giddens and Walker
Knicks trade: Jared Jeffries
Celtics why?: They add a player who literally has guarded every position on the floor. His shot selection has improved greatly this season and he is playing solid basketball. He adds depth to the front court which would allow the C's to Shelden Williams as the filler in a trade with Charlotte. Basically adding a solid versatile veteran for just about nothing. He is an upgrade over Scals and would play a similar role.
Knicks why?: Probably don't really need to explain this much. They cut another $6.8 mil for the summer. The actually get two young players who could excel in their system, but won't see anytime most likely.
Here is my most asinine trade idea. Really just a homer trade to help two of my favorite teams, but none the less I will try to reason...
Celtics trade: Ray Allen, Brian Scalabrine, JR Giddens and Bill Walker
Knicks trade: Jared Jeffries, Eddy Curry and Wilson Chandler
Kings trade: Kevin Martin, Andreas Nocioni, Ime Udoka and Kenny Thomas
Celtics get: Kevin Martin, Jared Jeffries and Andreas Nocioni
Knicks get: Kenny Thomas, Brian Scalabrine, Ime Udoka, JR Giddens and Bill Walker
Kings get: Eddy Curry, Wilson Chandler and Ray Allen
Celtics why?: They turn Allen's expiring into Kevin Martin, although they do have to take on Nocioni's contract, it is not the worst that terrible and he would be great off the bench. Jeffries is a nice veteran who is versatile also.
Knicks why?: They essentially use Chandler to sweeten a deal to make a team take on the only multi year deals they have left to shed. They get all expiring deals.
Kings why?: This is where the dreaming comes into play, haha. They get $18.7mil in expiring money. They add a huge body in the middle in Curry, who I think still has a chance to turn things around but obviously it's not going to happen in NY. He is obviously taking the player option he has, and if he doesn't pan out the Kings are players at the deadline next year with his $11.2mil expiring deal. The Kings also add a nice young potential stud in Chandler. While they are already stock piled with young talent, they may be able to use that along with Curry's expiring at the deadline next year.
Explain why getting Curry would ever help us out? Why get a lazy guy when we still have two young big men improving. Bringing in Curry does nothing for us.
