Miami Heat Miami interested in Iverson (Updated)

Miami Heat has contacted Iverson and Artest, insiders say - Breaking News - MiamiHerald.com

Hm... Wade and AI? I don't know... they both play similar games and Wade is obviously better right now. I don't know though...

Doesn't really make sense from a lineup standpoint...

Don't do it Miami... stick with Chalmers and save up for Bosh.

I actually think this could work.
Iverson is very ball-dominant, but it's different from Detroit in that Dwayne Wade more than makes up for Iverson's shortcomings on defense and it's not like the Heat have a #2 scoring option. This would be much like the Iverson/Melo combination IMO than the Iverson/Rip combination which was a disaster

This may or may not be related to Miami potentially signing Iverson, but about an hour ago on his Facebook page he posted "For those of you who thought I was done, think again!" (I saw this myself).

I'm guessing we'll hear something definitive Iverson's decision within the next 24 hours or something...

I really hope he goes to Charlotte. It would be really cool to see Brown-Iverson 2.0, and hopefully he could help rejuvenate the Bobcats, and push the young team into a playoff spot.

That is what I'm hoping for, along with him returning to Philly or something, but the latter is extremely unlikely to happen.

I think being in Charlotte is the best possibile situation for him. They have a talented young team and he can make a positive impact with the media if he helps lead them to their first playoff berth in franchise history. Not to mention the added benefit of reviving NBA basketball in Charlotte, selling jerseys, tickets, etc. All of that is going to be huge for the Bobcats since they are trying to sell the team right now.

Plus out of all the coaches he has played for no one has gotten more out of Iverson than Larry Brown. And if he ever gets out of line MJ can show him those six rings on his finger.

How would Iverson fit in?
Charlotte has Raymond Felton, D.J. Augustin, Raja Bell, and Gerald Henderson

If this is the best Pat Riley can do, then it will be a huge disappointment. No disrespect to AI, but i just don't think it'll work....he's better off in Charlotte.

Miami Heat Iverson interested in Miami

Quote:

HAMPTON, Va. -- Dwyane Wade's public campaign for the Heat to soon add play-making help to the roster resonated up the Atlantic on Tuesday, when free agent guard Allen Iverson placed Miami atop his wish list of potential destinations.

Iverson, one of several free agents the Heat had preliminary contact with last week, said playing alongside Wade and under the leadership of team president Pat Riley would be an intriguing option.

Speaking in one of his first interviews since the end of a tumultuous one-season stay in Detroit, Iverson also said he would be open to signing a one-year deal.

''The fact that Dwyane is there and Pat Riley has something to do with personnel, it seems like a great situation,'' Iverson said after his charity foundation presented scholarships to students from his hometown. ``I just want a situation where I can win and be happy. Being that those two guys are there, man, it just seems it'll be a good deal.''

Just how willing the Heat is to make a deal with Iverson remained in question heading into Wednesday, when free agents can sign contracts.

Riley has adamantly said he doesn't plan to take on any contracts that extend beyond next summer, when Wade and other marquee players such as Chris Bosh, LeBron James and Amare Stoudemire could become unrestricted free agents.

Riley also said he wouldn't make any major roster moves this summer unless Wade were to commit to a contract extension, which he becomes eligible to sign Sunday.

The Heat has the $5.5 midlevel exception, a $4.2 million trade exception and a $2 million veteran exception it could use to bolster the roster. But the team also is over the projected luxury tax and would have to pay a dollar-for-dollar penalty.

Iverson -- or any other potential free agent -- likely would have to accept less than the full midlevel amount and closer to the veteran's exception on a one-year deal in Miami.

''Some offers are on the table and discussions are ongoing,'' agent Leon Rose said. ``That's all I can really say at this point about that.''

Wade, who has made the media rounds this week for The Summer Groove charity events, has said at every stop that he would like to see the Heat make significant upgrades before he signs a long-term deal.

Wade has experienced highs and lows in his six seasons in Miami, which won a championship in 2006 but stumbled to a league-worst 15-67 record two seasons ago after injuries to Wade and key players.

Miami rebounded to go 43-39 last season, but was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

Wade said this week that Iverson was the type of dynamic scorer who could help.

''With AI, you look at a guy who is one of the best guys to ever put on an NBA jersey,'' Wade said in a radio interview Monday. ``A guy who can still score in the right offense, in the right flow. So you can never turn your nose up at a guy like Allen Iverson. I hear a lot of people that love and want to come to Miami, but it hasn't happened yet.''

Informed of Wade's comments, Iverson, a former league MVP and 10-time All-Star, said the respect between he and Wade is mutual.

''He's looking for a guy who can take some of the pressure off him and he can take some pressure off me,'' Iverson said. ``It's sort of like Denver, when me and [Carmelo Anthony] had each other's back.''

Iverson also addressed issues ranging from his rocky season in Detroit that ended with a mysterious back injury before the playoffs, the role he expects to play for his next team and his desire to reclaim a spot among the league's elite.

Now if i think about it, Iverson is a great player but last year with Detroit i didn't see or hear much about him. If he joins Miami i don't know what to think anymore, is he gonna play hard or just repeat his days with 'Melo.

His days with Melo weren't bad at all. Melo put up the best numbers of his career playing alongside Iverson (maybe up until this past season).

From the Heat's point of view I think it wouldn't hurt to sign AI to a one-year deal because you'll have the same cap space next summer that you would if you didn't sign him. Plus Wade has publicly stated that he wants to see an improved roster before signing a long term deal, so Riley may need to do something in order to show Wade that he'll build a roster that can contend.

The only thing that I would be concerned about is that AI and Wade play pretty much the same way... so I don't know how that will fit in with the team's offense.

We'll see what happens...

Well since we aren't really looking for long term signings right now, I don't think this would be a HORRIBLE move.. Hopefully it would work out if it happens though, because we really need to do everything we can to keep wade. It could workout bad or good IMO.

Wade is 100% staying, I see zero chance of him leaving Miami.

I agree. I don't think he will either, but I also believe he wants to see some more improvement, which would allow him the possibility of winning another title.

If they got AI, i guess it would be a nice addition. But the team needs size, i'm thinking they get some good center and place JO at PF, Udonis can come off the bench along with Chalmers.
Wade says he's willing to stay if Pat Riley makes the team a championship contender and he hasn't done shit yet.

Miami Heat Iverson could end up in Miami

Quote:
Allen Iverson has a hard time finding a job this off-season (unless, of course, he wants to move to Greece and make $10 million over two years for Olympiakos).

Iverson may have finally found his team, though. The Miami Heat supposedly gave him a call to see if he had any interest in moving to Florida. The man making the call was reportedly none other than Pat Riley, according to the Miami Herald.

Riley supposedly wanted the 10-time NBA All-Star and former league MVP that the Heat have "continued interest" in him.

You can be sure Iverson's half of the conversation included something to the effect of, "Show me the money, Pat."

Source: Miami Herald

First of all, Riley said that he plans for Miami to enter the '09-'10 season with the current roster (yes, his mind is set on the 2010 offseason). But it's clear that by losing Moon the Heat cleared some cap space, besides they plan to use the MLE on AI, so if it's a one year deal and that he agrees to come off the bench (because Chalmers is expected to be the future PG) i wouldn't mind welcoming AI. He could complement Wade.
