Default Brandon Bass?

Rumor has it that he's in talks with the Hornets FO...would be great if we could snag him, we need 8 and 5 off the bench and his free throw shooting.

Hopefully Scott would be able to swallow his pride. He said the main objective is to get a player he could put at PF/C. Not sure what that means for Bass.

I'm sure he'll sign with them being a native of Louisiana. I think he did play for NO/OKC a couple years ago.

Yeah, and I presume that's what noballer was talking about with the swallowing his pride thing.

Would be an awesome deal for New Orleans. He and CP3 running the pick and rule would be poetry in motion

Him and Paul were our picks in the 2005 draft. I remember seeing the Paul pick at the arena at the draft party and going home seeing Bass getting picked. Best draft we've had in a while. But, Byron Scott chose not to develop him and shoved him at the end of the bench, even though we were a bottom-tier team at the time. I don't see how you play veterans when you are a rebuilding team.

Yes yes yes!!!!!!!!

Come back Bass, finish what you started haha. Wow, didn't think he would consider coming back although I know the Hornets want him back and so do the fans. Wow, if he comes back I'll consider this a successful offseason, because that's basically all we need at this point is a high-energy big man off the bench.

IF this happens, our lineup should look pretty good.

PG: Paul/Collison/Daniels
SG: Butler/Thornton/Brown
SF: Stojakovic/Posey/Wright
PF: West/Bass/Marks
C: Chandler/Armstrong/Ely

Should have never let him go. When I saw him play in OKC I saw something special. A unique talent. Fan favorite, here and in New Orleans. The Hornets would be very lucky to get him back. But of course I would love for him to stick around in Dallas

Is he really going to go back to Hornets just to be a bench player? IMO he could be getting a starting gig on a few teams

Bass spoke about wanting to return to New Orleans, but he also talks about those wounds still healing. Who knows, maybe he needed to go elsewhere to develop because he's certainly come a long way since '07.

Quote:
One of those teams interested in Bass is none other than New Orleans, the same team with the same coach who, after drafting the former LSU star in 2005, barely gave him an opportunity to play.

“When I was coming out of high school, no matter what the Hornets offered me, I would have been there,” Bass said. ”I grew out of being a homeboy. I’d go other places. They’ve got a good team down there and if everything falls in line like it’s supposed to, I’d love to be back in New Orleans.”

Lack of opportunity is one of the reasons Bass originally left New Orleans. Head Coach Byron Scott didn’t give him much of a consistent opportunity to play.

“The situation that happened two years ago, my wounds are still healing,” Bass said. “They aren’t fully healed from what happened. But the experience there was so good for me that if I had to do it all over again, I’d still do it.”

I hate to rain your guy's parade, but Brandon would be a perfect fit in Detroit with that remaining $3-4 million in cap.

It's either Orlando or New Orleans IMO, those are his two top options. Besides, you guys already have a similar player in Jason Maxiell as long as he's not traded.

From what I understand, Brandon has a lot more value on the offensive end than Maxi.

There's talk that we're offering him the MLE.

Like 808 said, it's been said that the choice is between Orlando and New Orleans. It's just a matter of who's going to give him more playing time and how large his role is; that's the main thing a guy his age and talent level wants.

A piece in today's Times Picayune from John Reid:

Quote:
If the New Orleans Hornets are interested in signing unrestricted free agent Brandon Bass, they may have to lock him up quickly with a contract offer because an increasing number of teams are pursing him.

The Charlotte Bobcats contacted his agent, Tony Dutt, on Thursday joining the Orlando Magic, San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks and the Hornets who have inquired about Bass, a backup power forward. It appears in order for the Hornets to sign Bass, they may have to offer a substantial portion of their mid-level exception expected to be about $5.6 million. With that price range, the Hornets may look to cheaper options.

With use of mid-level and bi-annual exceptions, the Hornets could spend up to $7.4 million on free agents. But they likely won't spend near that amount. Their payroll has escalated to $77.5 million, well over the expected salary cap. The Hornets could sign one or two free agents using just their mid-level exception.
Who knows, but the chances of Bass coming home are getting slimmer.

Can't even sign him to the MLE... Wow, we made our first mistake in letting him walk two years ago but they can't possibly want to make the same mistake by not signing him now. By going cheaper, you're basically going for less talent, which is horrible logic. Pay Bass the $5M and worry about winning instead of worrying about salary issues.

Looks like Orlando is probably his new destination... Or Charlotte.

Quote:
The Charlotte Observer has reported that free agent forward Brandon Bass might have a five-year, $25 million offer on the table.

The Observer’s Rick Bonnell contacted agent Tony Dutt on Saturday, and while the Bobcats are interested in Bass, they aren’t believed to be the club that offered the $25 million deal.
http://howardthedunk.com/2009/07/05/...-on-the-table/

Both of those teams want him badly, and our dumbass management is too passive to even give his agent a phone call. What a shitty situation for us, we can't sign any decent free agents unless they want to settle for next to nothing.
