Restricted free agent forward Dorell Wright has agreed to a two-year contract extension, keeping him in Miami through the 2009-2010 season.
This past season, Wright held career highs in scoring (7.9 PPG), rebounding (5.0 RPG), blocks (0.9 BPG), field goal percentage (48.8%), minutes per game (25.1), and games started (34). As a starter in 2007-2008, the four-year NBA veteran put up 8.9 points and 5.4 rebounds in just over 29 minutes per outing.
Unfortunately, a knee injury obtained in early March would sideline the promising 22-year-old for the remainder of the season, allowing him to appear in just 44 total games.
Along with hard work and rehabilitation, Wright will have a bigger challenge to find a steady spot in the rotation in 2008-2009 on account of Miami signing sharpshooter James Jones this summer, in addition to the fact that soon-to-be second-year guard Daequan Cook has shown flashes of brilliance.

I like this move. Wright is young, and Miami needs as much depth as they can get. He’ll really have to battle for minutes with James Jones and Daequan Cook, but I think Wright has a chance to be a very solid rotation player if he recovers nicely.
