Unrestricted free agent swingman Devean George has re-signed with the Dallas Mavericks to a two-year deal worth approximately $4 million total. The second year of the deal contains a player option, in which a declination would allow him to become an unrestricted free agent again in the summer of 2009.
George, a nine-year NBA veteran and three-time NBA champion (2000, 2001, 2002), has spent the past two seasons with Dallas, in which he’s appeared in 113 regular season games for the Mavericks, where he’s held accumulative averages of 5.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game on a 38.1% shooting clip.

Eh. I don’t think that re-signing George was necessary. Sure, the Mavericks don’t have a valid starting 2-guard, but George shoots a sub-par field goal percentage consistently, and certainly not a guy that I feel deserves leverage with a player option - especially at this stage of his career.
