Posey, Hornets Make it Official

A few days after the news broke, the Hornets officially signed former Celtics forward James Posey on Wednesday, inking him to a four-year deal worth over $25 million. Posey, a nine year veteran, is expected to bring his Finals experience to the young upstart Hornets, having won two NBA Championships as a member of the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics.

“I look for them to do big things this upcoming season, after the great things they did last season,” he said, flashing his two championship rings to the media. “I want to contribute as best I can.”

The 6-8 forward’s contribution is expected to be very valuable to the Hornets next season, as he gives them a backcourt defensive element and knockout three-point shooting, two things they did not have in the playoffs last season.

“Many times a player’s statistics paint an inaccurate picture,” Hornets general manager Jeff Bower said. “James’ stats only tell half the story. He’s all about his team and playing whatever role is necessary for him to contribute.”

James Posey averaged 7.4 points and 4.4 rebounds as a key reserve in 74 games with the Celtics last season, and was an X-factor in their memorable championship run.

“Whatever Coach (Byron Scott) asks of me,” Posey said. “I’ll do the best I can, do what it takes to win games.”

I’ll miss you, Pose. Good luck in New Orleans (80 times per year, anyway).
